J. Ross Blankenship, PhD
Ross is the founder and managing director of bp|leadership, the leadership assessment and advisory practice at Bespoke Partners, a retained executive search firm in San Diego, CA. In this role, he works with the executives of software companies to assess team culture, evaluate candidate fit, and design coaching strategies to ensure candidates are successful in transition. He has worked with companies held by top private equity firms such as Insight Venture Partners, Accel-KKR, Genstar Capital, and Thoma Bravo. He also advises private equity investors on issues such as individual assessment, leadership development, and talent analytics.
Ross is also Adjunct Faculty at the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL), where he facilitates leadership development programs for first time managers. Prior to joining Bespoke Partners, he completed a practicum on coaching and research at CCL where he co-authored a chapter in the CCL Handbook of Coaching in Organizations entitled “Coaching the Derailing Leader.” Previously, he worked as a fixed income sales analyst at the investment bank Sterne Agee, and as a D&O liability insurance underwriter for Chubb Corporation. He is a member of the Society of Consulting Psychology, the Society of Quantitative and Qualitative Methods, and the Society for Industrial & Organizational Psychology.
Ross received his BA in English Language and Literature from the University of Virginia and his MS and PhD in Consulting Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology.
